Julian Schnabel:  The Conversion of St. Paolo Malfi, PaceWildenstein, New York, New York, 1996

“Art functions as a physical fact to commemorate the existence of being.”  – Julian Schnabel

Paolo Malfi was an Italian artist who worked as a studio assistant for both Julian and Francesco Clemente.  Paolo Malfi died in an automobile accident near Rome in the summer of 1995.  Schnabel’s cycle of paintings, The Conversions of St. Paolo Malfi, is a response to his friend’s life and death.

This exhibition stayed at the gallery at 142 Greene Street from February 15-March 23, 1996.
